Cooking Club: Reception, Years 1, 2, 3
Harry Potter Club: Years 3,4,5,6
Phonics Club: Reception, Year 1
This term we have been cooking and baking different types of foods, ranging from pitta pizzas to jam biscuits, with some of the cooking linking to our class countries. To promote the schools culture capital, this opportunity offers the children a wide range of skills and new opportunities. We have been looking at different types of methods, ingredients, their use, techniques and measurements when cooking and baking. The children are able to take home what they make.
In recorder club, we are learning how to play the recorder in a group. So far, we have learnt how to correctly hold the recorder and how to play the notes B and A. We are also learning about rhythm, how to read music and improve our listening and teamwork skills.
Eco Club is a fun club which focuses on a range of different activities to support our environment. Amongst researching how to be eco-friendly we have taken part in creating a wormery each, home-made bird feeders, wild flower bombs and much more!
Harry Potter Club is full of all things mystery and magic! The children spent the first week designing bookmarks and badges and getting ‘sorted’ into a house team! Over the next couple of weeks, children will be making polyjuice potion slime, designing and making their own wand, designing a new sock for Dobby the elf, painting a dragons egg and much more!
On Monday, we held our very first phonics club of the year. We completed some fun phonics activities based on Alphablocks and played some phonics games using the iPads. We can’t wait until next week!
On Wednesdays some of the children in Key Stage 2 take part in Football Club with Ms Stansfield. We learn new tactics each week and improve our teamwork skills. Football is super fun and encourages us to be fit and healthy too!
On Mondays, Y4-6 take part in Netball Club. They are focusing on the fundamental movement skills, hand-eye coordination, agility and balance. Each week, the children will focus on an aspect of Netball such as passing, defending and shooting. These skills will be applied to a mini netball game at the end.
On Monday’s, some of the children from Upper School take part in Art Club with Miss Clay. They are working towards creating a piece of collaborative art that they can enter into the DSWF Global Canvas – Children’s Art Competition—which you can find out more about here https://davidshepherd.org/wildlife-art/global-canvas/
The theme is ‘Forests of Land and Sea’ and we hope to create something that inspires others to look after our forests that are home to millions of different creatures!
